How Custom Temperature Test Chambers Ensure Network Equipment Reliability Under Extreme Conditions - TEMAK Case Study

I. Client Background and Core Challenge


A TEMAK client, a globally renowned electronics manufacturer, faced a significant challenge in its product quality validation process. The company needed to conduct extreme environmental reliability testing on its high-performance network switches. Crucially, these tests had to be performed while the equipment operated at full power, generating substantial heat.


Their core needs include:


Extremely high thermal load: A single switch generates up to 20 kilowatts of heat during operation.

Demanding temperature change rate: Within the -20°C to +80°C range, a heating rate of 2°C/min must be maintained on average, achieved under full load conditions with the equipment powered on (POWER ON).

Exceptional precision and uniformity: Even under 20kW thermal shock, temperature fluctuation and uniformity within the chamber must be controlled within extremely narrow limits to ensure accurate and reliable test data.

Complex integration and safety requirements: Integration of a hydraulic lift platform, numerous power and data interfaces, and compliance with the highest operational safety standards are required.


This far exceeds the capabilities of a standard temperature test chamber. It demands a fully customized, engineered walk-in temperature test chamber solution.


II. TEMAK Customized Engineering Solutions


We did not provide a standard off-the-shelf test chamber. Instead, we formed a team of engineers to gain a deep understanding of the customer's testing processes. Ultimately, we customized a large walk-in temperature and humidity test chamber for the customer, which was deployed as a complete testing ecosystem.


1. Overcoming Core Challenges: Precision Temperature Control and Thermal Management

The core challenge of the project lies in achieving rapid, precise temperature changes while enduring continuous thermal shocks of 20kW. TEMAK's temperature chamber adopts a high-power cascade refrigeration system combined with a computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-optimized air duct system to ensure rapid and efficient heat dissipation. This guarantees stable and reliable performance at the customer's required 2°C/min temperature change rate even under full load conditions, significantly accelerating their product validation cycles.


2. Seamless integration for efficient workflows


We are committed to seamlessly integrating this temperature test chamber into our customers' production lines:

Embedded Hydraulic Lift Platform: We custom-engineered a 500kg-capacity platform (1600x1200mm) with adjustable height (10-300mm), significantly streamlining heavy equipment loading/unloading while prioritizing ergonomics and operational safety.

Comprehensive Safety System: Safety is our client's top priority. We designed mechanical safety latches to ensure the platform is absolutely locked during maintenance; added protective covers to prevent pinching; and integrated a smoke detection and emergency system. Upon detecting smoke, the system immediately cuts power to the product and activates emergency ventilation, safeguarding personnel, products, and facilities.

 

Custom Interface Panel: Based on client specifications, we installed 4x14 RJ45 Ethernet ports, multiple oversized cable ports, and industrial-grade aviation connectors. Each aviation connector features independent power control, providing clients with a secure and rapid connection solution.


3. Enhanced Data Monitoring and Traceability


To ensure absolute reliability of testing, this customized temperature and humidity test chamber is equipped with 12 additional independent temperature sensors. Customers can position these probes at any critical location within the product to comprehensively map the thermal environment inside the chamber. Each probe supports independent over-limit alarms, guaranteeing flawless testing and complete data traceability.
