Rain spray test chamber: IP protection level test process analysis and application practice
In the field of industrial manufacturing and electronic product research and development, rain spray test chamber as the core tool to verify the protection performance of equipment, its importance with the growth of demand for outdoor equipment and increasingly prominent. This paper will combine international standards and engineering practice, in-depth analysis of the IP protection level test system, and systematic description of the rain spray test chamber in all types of test scenarios in the technical applications.
I. The IP protection level system and the relevance of rain spray test chamber
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) developed the IP code system, through two digits to quantify the equipment shell protection capability. The second digit (0-9K) specifically characterize the waterproof performance, rain spray test chamber by simulating the real environment of water erosion scenes, accurate verification of equipment protection level. For example:
IPX4 level equipment needs to withstand the impact of splashing water in any direction, usually using a pendulum-type waterproof test chamber for 360 ° all-round spray test.
IPX7 level equipment requires submerged in 1 meter of water depth within 30 minutes, need to configure a special submerged waterproof test chamber to complete the sealing validation
rain spray test chamber of the technical parameters directly impact on the accuracy of the test results, including the flow rate control accuracy (± 0.5%), pressure fluctuation range (≤ ± 2%). Range (≤ ± 2%), temperature regulation (-70 ℃ ~ +150 ℃) and other core indicators, are required to comply with ISO 20653 standard requirements.
The levels of protection indicated by the two labeled numbers are shown in the table below:
First digit after IP Dust protection rating
Digital | Scope of protection | Clarification
0 | Unprotected | No specialized protection
1 | Prevents solid foreign objects with a diameter of not less than 50 mm | Spherical objects with a diameter of 50 mm cannot enter the housing
2 | Prevents solid foreign objects with a diameter of not less than 12.5 mm | Spherical objects with a diameter of 12.5 mm must not enter the housing
3 | Prevents solid foreign objects with a diameter of not less than 2.5 mm | Spherical objects with a diameter of 2.5 mm must not enter the housing
4 | Prevents group foreign objects with a diameter of not less than 1.0 mm | Spherical objects with a diameter of 1.0 mm cannot enter the housing
5 | Dustproof | Does not completely prevent dust from entering, but the dust that enters does not affect the normal operation of the equipment and does not affect the safety
6 | Dusttight | No dust entry
Second digit after IP Waterproof rating
Digital | Scope of protection | Clarification |
0 | Unprotected | No special protection |
1 | Protection against vertical dripping | No harmful effects of vertical dripping |
2 | 15° protection against dripping | Vertical dripping without harmful effects when all vertical surfaces of the enclosure are inclined within 15° |
3 | Protection against water showers | No harmful effects of water dripping from each vertical surface within 60° |
4 | Splash-proof | Splash water in all directions to the outer 売, no harmful effects |
5 | Anti-Spray | Spraying water in all directions on the housing without harmful effects |
6 | Protection against strong water spray | No harmful effects of strong water spray in all directions of the housing |
7 | Protect against the effects of short-term immersion in water | Immersion in water at a specified pressure for a specified period of time does not cause harmful effects on the water intake of the enclosure |
8 | Protection against continuous submersion | Continuous diving according to the conditions agreed by the manufacturer and the user, the water intake of the shell does not reach a harmful level |

When the level of protection requirements is higher than the level indicated by the above characteristic numbers, the extended range will be expressed by adding accessory letters after the first 2 digits, which also need to meet the respective requirements of these additional letters.
