Salt spray test for automobile body refers to the test of automobile exterior metal parts, plating parts, etc. under salt spray environment to evaluate their corrosion resistance. This test is an important step in the automobile manufacturing process and one of the most important means of evaluating the appearance and durability of automobiles. The following are the requirements for salt spray testing of automobile bodies.
At present, the salt spray test standards widely used in the international are ISO, ASTM, JIS and so on. Among them, ISO 9227:2017 is the widely used international standard, which stipulates the requirements for test conditions, test time and evaluation methods. In addition, automobile manufacturers may develop their own internal standards to ensure the quality of their products.

Salt spray test chambers are the key equipment for realizing the salt spray test on automobile bodies. The equipment should meet the requirements of the ISO 9227:2017 standard, for example, there should be constant temperature and humidity conditions in the test chamber, a device for continuously spraying brine in the test chamber, and so on. At the same time, the maintenance and repair of the equipment is also very important to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the test results.
The test sample should be a representative automobile body part. Automobile manufacturers usually choose different test specimens, such as doors, roofs, hoods, etc., according to the characteristics of the product and the environment in which it is used. In addition, the number and size of the samples should also comply with the standard requirements to ensure the reliability of the test results.
Test conditions are one of the important factors affecting the test results. According to ISO 9227:2017, the test conditions should be 5% NaCl aqueous solution, and the test should be carried out at 35℃, and the test time is usually 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, 96 hours and other different time periods. Constant temperature, humidity and brine concentration should be maintained in the test chamber during the test to ensure the accuracy of the test results.
Evaluation of test results is the ultimate goal of the test. According to ISO 9227:2017, at the end of the test, the samples should be visually inspected and microscopically examined to assess the degree of corrosion and damage. Usually, the assessment results can be categorized into no corrosion, slight corrosion, moderate corrosion and severe corrosion levels.
